- June 2019
On-Line License Activation simplifies license activation and updates. But you must install the latest application versions to get the on-line activation (you really want to do that anyway). All rental licenses are eligible to update/upgrade to the new on-line activation.
When you rewnew annual licenses, you will receive new License IDs and Activation PWs for on-line activation to replace the HW keys that controlled your previous licenses. Until we have network-capable licenses available, you may also request license files to continue using the HW keys. The HW keys work only for the older versions found on the HW Key Releases page.
For the present, to request License IDs and Activation Passwords to replace your existing HW key licenses before your annual renewal time, please use the Contact Form. In the message area at the bottom of the form please tell us you are requesting replacement License IDs and which keys you want to replace with the new licenses.
For more information about on-line activation please see the Read1st.pdf on the Downloads page.
Along with the new license facility, all applications have been updated (bug fixes) or upgraded (new code selections and other fixes). Beam V3.4.0, Compmem V3.2.0 and Studs V4.4.0 all have ACI 318-14 as a code option. See the Release Notes for each application on the respective Product pages.
If you want to keep your current HW key-activated licenses, they'll still work until their current rental period is up but only with the older application versions that you find on the Downloads → HW Key Releases page.
Once you have the new on-line activated license working you can return your HW key to have the deposit (if any) refunded. See this FAQ about mailing your HW key.
- April 2019
Beam V3.4.0 incorporates ACI 318-14 and several other small feature upgrades and bug fixes. See the Release Notes on the Downloads → Beta Test Versions. page for the full list of changes.
As with all of our beta test versions, the installer will create a new folder in Program Files for the beta test version without disturbing your current Beam version.
This beta test uses the new licensing system that requires a License ID and Activation Password for each installed copy of the program. Please use the ContactUs form to request IDs and Passwords. Please specify "beta test licenses" in the message area at the bottom of the form and also tell us how many licenses you want.
- November 2018
Beta Tests are under way for all six programs. Some programs have updates, Bcan, Beam, Lateral3 and Shearwal, with the main change being the new licensing that doesn't use a HW key. The other programs have upgrades, Compmem and Studs, that include new code options as well as the new licensing. For more details please see the Release Notes on the Downloads → Beta Test Versions page.
You must request License IDs and Activation Passwords for the beta test programs. Please use the ContactUs form for the request. Please specify "beta test licenses" in the message area at the bottom of the form and also tell us how many licenses you want.
Please run tests and report any problems.

Multiple distributed loads of various types as well as partially distributed loads can now be entered. All standard load types and load cases have been added to simplify code required or user-defined load combinations. See the Release Notes (Link Removed) for the full list of changes.

Current rental customers should get the new release from the Downloads page.
- May 2013
Shearwal V3.2.1 brings the building code option up to IBC 2012 and also introduces a couple of significant changes in the underlying program.
The first change introduces an option to choose between two ways of calculating the vertical force balance that is subsequently used in strain compatibility, moment and most other calculations. The second change reports the Mu and φMn values differently so that all externally applied loads are reflected in Mu and all internal resisting forces are reflected in φMn. Two PDF documents which are included in the ZIP with the installer provide more details about the changes.
There are many other smaller changes and bug fixes in the new version. See the Release Notes which are part of the ZIP download.
The installer will create a new folder in Program Files for the beta test
version without disturbing your current Shearwal

It was a pleasure to meet so many of our customers face-to-face at the PCI Convention. Now that the fun is over, it's back-to-work time.
We're finishing an upgrade for Studs that will add support for ACI 318-05 Appendix D and welded hanger bars.
That long-promised upgrade for Lateral3 to include IBC-2006 support should be out by the end of the year. The variable first story feature won't be in the first version to cover IBC-2006 but will be added some time early next year.
Compmem will get an upgrade to ACI 318-05 some time early next year. The addition of tension capabiltiy in the last version has caused some problem with the prestressed member design. The current version (V3.0.4) uses a linear interpolation for moment capacity when the member is in tension (sometimes too conservative) which we hope to replace with a more exact design once we determine what that should be.
- September 2007
An update for Studs fixes several small bugs. Please see the Release Notes for details. All users of Studs V4.1.x should update. See our Upgrade/Update Policy on the FAQ page.

Work is progressing well on an upgrade for Lateral3 to include the IBC 2006 code changes. We are also looking at a modification to allow variable height of the first story (an often-requested change but we don't know yet if it's feasible). Look for the release later this year.
Steve Ortiz has joined the programming effort. We're putting him to work first on Bcan and Compmem updates to clear up the remaining user interface bugs in those two applications. There will be maintenance updates available soon. If you are a Salmons P.C. customer, you may know Steve from his work on precast design projects.

A beta test version (available to subscribers) is anticipated by the end of September.
We've made good progress on the maintenance updates. However we've been delayed by some unsettled issues with the Beam program. I'll complete this work along with the Studs upgrade.
